Categories and Levels

Welcome to the Categories and Levels page! To ensure each dancer competes in the appropriate group, all participants must submit a registration video. Our judges will review each video to place dancers in the best-suited level based on their experience and skills.

Bachata Stars 2024

Competition Dance Style

This competition is focused exclusively on Bachata, allowing dancers to showcase their skills, musicality, and creativity in this expressive and dynamic style.

Skill Levels

Our Bachata competition includes two main skill levels. Please read through the descriptions to understand the expectations for each group.

1. Rising Stars (Beginners and Improvers)

  • Who It’s For: Dancers with foundational Bachata knowledge, including beginners and those with basic proficiency in Bachata steps, partner connection, and timing.
  • What to Expect: Focus on core movements, rhythm, and coordination with a partner. This level encourages dancers to develop confidence and fluency in fundamental Bachata skills.

2. Bachata Stars (Intermediate and Advanced)

  • Who It’s For: Experienced dancers with a solid grasp of Bachata fundamentals, as well as intermediate to advanced proficiency in musicality, footwork, and complex partner work.
  • What to Expect: Challenging and intricate moves, strong musicality, sync with different tempos, and a high level of creativity and improvisation. Dancers in this category should be able to execute advanced techniques fluidly.

How to Determine Your Level

To participate, all dancers must:

  1. Register using our online form and submit a short video showcasing your Bachata skills.

  2. Video Requirements:

    • The video should be 1-2 minutes long.
    • Demonstrate basic steps, turns, and any styling that represents your skill level.
    • Show both solo moves and, if possible, partner work (if dancing with a partner).

  3. Judges’ Review: Our panel of judges will review all submissions and assign dancers to the appropriate level based on demonstrated skill and experience.

Note: If you are unsure about which level best fits you, our judges will place you based on your video submission. The goal is to create a fair and balanced competition for all participants.

Special Guidelines

  • Fair Play: For accurate placement, please submit a video that reflects your true skill level. Misrepresentation may result in reclassification or disqualification.
  • Feedback: Judges’ placement decisions are final and aim to create an enjoyable experience for all dancers by ensuring level-appropriate competition.
