Bachata Stars 2024

Competition Rules

1. General Rules

  • Eligibility: All participants must be registered and assigned to their competition level (Rising Stars or Bachata Stars) as determined by their video submission.
  • Attire: Appropriate dance attire is required. Footwear and clothing should be comfortable, safe, and suitable for Bachata dancing.
  • Partner Selection: This is a Jack and Jill format competition, meaning partners will be randomly assigned for each round. Dancers may not request specific partners.
  • Improvisation Requirement: All routines should be improvised in the Jack and Jill spirit, as choreographed routines are not permitted.

2. Performance Rules

  • Music: Songs will be selected by the dj and judjes, and dancers must adapt to the randomly chosen track. Each song will align with the Bachata style and will be suitable for the level competing.
  • Timing and Rhythm: Dancers must follow the rhythm and timing of the selected song. Off-time dancing may affect scoring.
  • Dance Etiquette: Each participant should respect their partner, using clear lead and follow techniques and maintaining safe, respectful contact throughout the dance.

3. Judging Criteria

  • Technical Skill: Judges will evaluate dancers based on their technique, including footwork, posture, and accuracy.
  • Musicality: Dancers will be judged on their ability to interpret and move in sync with the music.
  • Connection: Judges will assess the connection between partners, including lead-follow dynamics and adaptability to the randomly assigned partner.
  • Creativity: Points are awarded for creativity, style, and use of Bachata-specific styling and movement.

4. Elimination and Advancement

  • Rounds: Dancers will participate in multiple rounds (Preliminary, Semifinal, and Final). The top-scoring participants from each round will advance to the next.
  • Elimination: After each round, a portion of participants will be eliminated based on scores. Judges’ decisions are final.
  • Scoring: Scores will be kept private and will not be disclosed publicly. Only finalists will receive their individual feedback after the competition.
